    Yard of the Month

An annual contest started in the Spring of 2013. Local judges pick one home each month during May, June, July, August and September. The winners receive a $25 visa gift card sponsored by First State Bank Nebraska, a wooden sign in their yard for that month, and a photo in the garden section of the Voice News.

    Flower Barrels

The spring of 2016 will be the 10th year that flower barrels have been planted and placed around town. They dress up Main Street and the Community Center and are colorful additions all summer long.

    Garage Sales

The community garage sales are held every year in June, usually the first weekend, all day Friday and Saturday. In past years there have been over 40 homes participating in this event. Since 2010, the Knights of Columbus have gathered unsold items and delivered them to the Lincoln City Mission.

    Cortland Fest

An annual all day Saturday event is traditionally held the last weekend in June. Features include kids’ activities, tractor show, car show, entertainment, food, parade and raffles. You often find different events each year such as a bake sale, a farmers market/craft fair, baseball, volleyball or perhaps a theme for the day. The festivities conclude with a spectacular fireworks display, free to the public.

    Spookfest

An annual Saturday evening Halloween event held every year for the kids of the community. The event features games for kids, a haunted walk-through scene, and spooky snacks and refreshments for all.

    Christmas in the Park

Christmas 2007 was the first year that residents started decorating the community park trees with Christmas lights. This annual event continued through Christmas 2011. The goal each year was to have every tree decorated by people of the community. That goal was met in 2009 with all 37 trees decorated.

    Christmas Lighting Contest

An annual contest started in December 2013 asking community residents to decorate their yards in order to determine winners for the Christmas holiday season. Local judges drive around town looking at decorating displays and then determine a first, second and third place winner. Certificates and monetary prizes are then given in the amounts of $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place.

    Santa

This annual Saturday morning event features activities for kids of the community along with cookies and refreshments for everyone. Of course, Santa is always there to thrill the kids with a goody bag and hear their Christmas wish lists!
